I get disappointed when I read that someone is excited to learn how to animate in school one day.
Just start. Do it. Learn it by failing a few times first, you’ll learn more than a professor can teach you in a few years of college. Not having the right program to animate is not an excuse, there…

I started toying with animation something like 6 years before i went to college. Even THERE the teachers didn’t teach us how to do animation, you only get the tools of how the program works ( lets say Flash ), a little about designing a character and some animation physics ( bouncing ball, Tweening, etc..).
From class of 20 pips, we turned into 7 who actually put effort…. HECK, we had some pips who begged the teacher to just do someof the parts for them because they didn’t see it ( the motion ) xD;
SO I THINK, In the end, it is all depends on your passion and how serious you are… not just to do it because it looks FUN- it’s actually pretty hard.
This is truuuueee. I should animate something tonight…hm.
